英汉语习语互译：“溜之大吉”英语怎么说？

　　该习语中的hasty表示“匆忙的”，retreat表示“撤退”，整个洗浴的意思是“withdraw rapidly”，即“迅速撤退”，相当于汉语里的“紧急撤退；溜之大吉；撒腿就跑；仓皇逃窜；落荒而逃”。

　　【闲话习语】

　　该习语较早出现在1827年10月的《泰晤士报》（The Times）里：

　　"A few nights ago, a fair trader had commenced unloading her cargo, consisting of light goods, in the Pent, but in the midst of the operation was discovered by the Philistines, and obliged to beat a hasty retreat across the rope-walk to the sea..."

　　该习语最初的版本不是beat a retreat，而是beat the retreat，因为其中的the retreat其实最初是英国军队的规定，即每到日落时分，敌我双方就会停止战斗，然后通过击鼓的方式来告诉士兵，可以回营休息了，这种击鼓的信号当时就被叫做“The Retreat”。所以，在当时，retreat不是撤退弃战的意思，而是休战睡觉的意思。
