“学位服”用英语怎么说？毕业拨穗有什么寓意？

　　1. 毕业典礼 ：Commencement/Graduation Ceremony

　　英式英语里，毕业典礼一般叫“graduation ceremony”

　　在美国，毕业典礼则通常被称作“commencement ceremony”

　　例句：

　　At mycommencement, I never imagined that someday I would be standing here giving the final remarks at your commencement.

　　在我的毕业典礼上，我从来没有想过有一天我会站在这里，在你们的毕业典礼上做最后一次发言。

　　

　　2. 毕业演讲：commencement/graduation speech

　　世界名校大多会邀请各界精英来deliver（发表）演讲。

　　

　　3. 学位服：academic dress/costume

　　一般称为Cap and Gown，即学位帽和学位袍。

　　

　　4. 拨穗：Turning of the tassel

　　Cap上那个穗穗就叫tassel（流苏） 。

　　通常是校长或系主任，会为每个degree candidate（学位候选人）turn the tassel（拨穗），象征着transition from candidate to graduate（学位候选人获得学位这个转变）。正确的拨穗姿势，是从右到左，所以上台接受拨穗礼之前，记得把穗穗先拨到右边。

　　英式英语里，本科和硕士论文都叫dissertation， 博士论文叫thesis；

　　而美式完全反过来，本科和硕士论文叫thesis，博士论文叫dissertation；

　　Paper可以指课程论文，或某个具体研究在会议或者期刊上发表的论文。如term paper, course paper, research paper。

　　Essay的含义较广，既可指几千字的短篇论文，也可以指散文或者杂文。
