  18. We have to accept the truth: Sometimes, we just want to shout out loud. For example, we all have days like this: our dog has made a mess on the floor we just cleaned, or our friend called to tell us he or she couldn't come at the last minute when we had cooked dinner for him or her. We might be really angry but we tried to bear things like those. According to ancient Chinese wisdom (至理名言), we should shout in a loud voice instead of keeping quiet. In fact, it's good for our health. "Chinese people have passed on the practice from ancient times to now as a part of traditional medicine," said Mrs. Li, a 60-year-old woman from Hangzhou. "My parents taught me to do this. It's a part of our folk culture." Mrs. Li is a member of a group of people who love shouting. Each morning, she and some of her friends climb to the top of a hill and let out loud shouts before starting their daily exercise. They believe that shouting is good exercise for their lungs (肺) and it brings them a lot of fun. "Sometimes I shout out and others shout back," said Mrs. Gu, another shouting lover. "It makes you happy. You laugh and then you feel very comfortable." Dr. Peter Calafiura, an American doctor, agrees that shouting can have a positive (积极的) influence on people's health. 20. Small talk like "What do you have there? Ice cream?" or "The weather today is beautiful, isn't it?" is meaningless and a waste of time, according to some people. But scientists believe that it is actually more useful than it may appear to be. One example comes when you are on a train or a plane. The thought of talking to the stranger sitting beside you can be scary and silly, because you know the conversation is sure to be embarrassing (尴尬). But a study by the University of Chicago in the U.S. found that people who talk to strangers enjoy a better ride than those who sit in silence or keep playing with their phones. In the study, researchers asked people at Chicago train stations to start conversations with other travellers. Most of them refused to do so at first because they didn't expect to get a friendly answer. But the result is the opposite—most strangers were not only willing to be talked to, but also pleasant to talk to. "Human beings are social animals," Nicholas Epley, one of the lead researchers said. "Other people are people, too. And it turns out that they'd like to get to know you." Apart from making you happy, small talk with strangers can also help you feel connected to your surroundings. Some studies found that when people are often smiled at, made eyes contact with and spoken to at coffee shops, there is a better chance that they will have a stronger sense of belonging instead of feeling like they are being ignored and left out. And if you are already comfortable enough to make small talk with strangers, you should try to develop it into something "bigger". A study showed that having a deep and meaningful conversation gives you even more happiness than small talk. But deep conversation can start with small talk, can't they? So the first step is to start talking, no matter how casual the topic is. And who knows, maybe an opening line as simple as "I like your hat" could lead to a serious conversation in which you learn something new from a stranger.

  (1) What do we know from the result of the study by the University of Chicago?________

  A. Small talk can be very useful.B. Different opinions about small talk.C. How to start a small conversation in our daily life.D. The difference between small talk and deep conversations.

  21. The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Beijing on Friday night, February 4th. Social media users described it with these words: amazing, flashing and shining. The main stage of the ceremony in the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird's Nest, is designed to be like a huge Chinese character "Zhong", covering almost the whole stage. In fact, it is the world's largest ground LED screen. The screen, with a size of 10,552 square meters, was actually made up of about 42,000 small LED units. The huge ground screen, together with a 10-meter-high vertical (竖的) screen, allowed the audience to have a wonderful experience. To build such a big ground LED screen wasn't an easy task. As the main stage, on which all performances and the Parade of Nations (入场式) took place, it had to be strong, water-proof (不透水) and able to support heavy weights. What was more challenging, as the stadium is open-air, the ground screen had to be able to support the winter freezing temperature, as well as weather like rain and snow. To solve all the challenges, technicians built a special protective covering for it. With the help of AI, 5G, AR and naked-eye 3D technologies from the company CALA, which once offered them to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony, the ceremony presented many amazing moments. The most unforgettable moment is when the Olympic Rings were "carved (雕刻) out" of a 3D shaped like a block of ice on the screen. Another great point is that children sang and danced across the stage, when stars appeared on the screen under their feet. Thanks to the screens, creative ideas and high technologies, the two-hour ceremony only needed around 3,000 excellent performers, compared with 15,000 during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony. It greatly meets the theme of energy saving. Thomas Bach, the president of IOC believed that the 2022 Olympic Winter Games would be "in safe hands" when Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in 2015. The amazing ceremony showed the world that China has kept its promise of hosting a fantastic event with strong determination (决心) and confidence.

  (3) The underlined word "them" refers to ________.

  A. the technologies the ceremony used B. the moments the ceremony presentedC. the screens that were served for the kids D. the rings that were "carved out" of the ice
